Anne Hill Enrichment Centre’s Early Learning programme is an adaptation of the Anne Hill International School (AHI) Early Learning and Development Programme. The programme focuses on literacy, numeracy and skills development – Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social Skills (PIES) – through the use of fun, creative and interactive methods.
The curriculum is largely based on Montessori teaching approaches, complemented by other learning methods, such as Jolly Phonics and Numicon. During Montessori, children make creative choices in their learning through age-appropriate self directed activities assigned by the teacher. Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics (4 letter sounds). Numicons is a multi-sensory approach to teaching mathematics and is designed to help children understand connections between numbers.
Class activities will revolve around the concept of “Learn Through Play”. Play becomes a natural way to expose students to sounds and words as well as motivate them to learn about themselves and their surroundings. In other words, our class engages students in such a way that they they that they are playing, but in actual fact, they are learning.
During class, students are introduced to routines and guided learning experiences that varies across different fields. The focus is on developing the student’s language, motor, creativity and social skills through repetition.
The focus is on hands on experience and problem solving. Through everyday context, students will gain experience and self confidence in thinking and making decisions of their own. The objective for children to be able to reflect on their learning and express what they have achieved.
